Bragdon Weather System
I sampled one of Bragdon's best selling weathering powder kits, a four pack of light, medium and dark rust plus soot. The manufacturer states that his materials are not chalk--they're actually a very finely ground mix of real rust and other weathering ingredients plus a powdered dry adhesive. The powder goes a long way and is pressure sensitive, adhering to most non glossy materials when scrubbed in with a small brush. No sealing is necessary! The powder comes in a wide variey of colors and gives a dry sooty appearance as depicted in the rooftop photo below.

Here's another shot of a kit bashed building. The powders were used sparingly on the painted brick surface to give an aged and weathered effect.
As you can see, the surface (in this case plastic) does not even have to be painted to obtain good results with the Bragdon Powders. Not the case with chalk!
